China leads global Solar Energy production in 2022; Bangladesh emerges as a promising contributor

As solar energy gains traction globally, China dominates production while Bangladesh shows potential with growing capacity.

Rayhan Rafi:

In the scorching heatwave, the significance of solar energy intensifies, offering a sustainable solution amidst environmental challenges. Analyzing the global landscape of solar energy production in 2022 reveals China’s unparalleled dominance, alongside emerging players like Bangladesh, hinting at a promising future for renewable energy adoption.

Continental breakdown of Solar Energy production

The global surge in solar power adoption is evident across continents, with Asia leading the charge. By the end of 2022, Asia emerges as the frontrunner in solar energy production, boasting a total output of 943,639 megawatts (MW). This dominance underscores Asia’s commitment to renewable energy and its pivotal role in shaping the future of sustainable power generation.

Following closely, Europe secures the second position among the major continents, generating 160,307 MW of solar energy. This substantial contribution highlights Europe’s strides towards a greener energy landscape and aligns with the region’s ambitious sustainability targets.

Meanwhile, America maintains a significant presence in the global solar energy arena, producing 192,703 MW by the end of 2022. This noteworthy output underscores America’s commitment to diversifying its energy portfolio and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.

China secures the top spot

China solidifies its position as the global leader in solar energy production, generating a staggering 393,032 megawatts (MW) in 2022, comprising 41.65% of the total global output. This robust contribution underscores China’s commitment to renewable energy and its pivotal role in combating climate change.

United States and Japan follow

The United States claims the second position, generating 113,015 MW, capturing 11.98% of the global share. Meanwhile, Japan secures the third spot with 78,833 MW, representing 8.35% of the total solar energy output in 2022.

Germany and India make strides

Germany and India occupy the fourth and fifth positions, respectively, in the global solar energy landscape. Germany produces 66,554 MW (7.05%), emphasizing its continued dedication to renewable energy initiatives. India follows closely, contributing 63,146 MW (6.69%), showcasing its commitment to harnessing solar power.

Bangladesh’s promising contribution

Amidst the global leaders, Bangladesh emerges as a noteworthy contributor to solar energy production, generating 537 MW in 2022. While this represents a modest percentage (0.06%) of the global total, Bangladesh’s commitment to renewable energy presents significant opportunities for growth and sustainability.
