B Mirror Desk : Chief Adviser (CA) Muhammad Yunus will not step down, stated Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, the special assistant to the CA on posts, telecommunications, and information technology ministry, today (23 May).
“Prof Dr Muhammad Yunus does not seek power. Dr Yunus is essential for the future of Bangladesh, ensuring a peaceful democratic transition for the country,” Taiyeb posted on his Facebook profile this morning.
His remarks followed rumors that Yunus, who assumed the role of CA in August last year after a mass uprising ousted the Awami League from power, was contemplating resigning from his position.
Yesterday (22 May), following a lengthy meeting of the Advisory Council, Yunus conducted an unscheduled four-hour meeting with council members where he voiced his frustration regarding various challenges, political instability, and lack of cooperation from political parties, indicating he was thinking about resigning.
Taiyeb remarked, “Instead, the cabinet should become more proactive. The government needs to operate more effectively, advisers must exert greater effort, and tangible progress must be shown to the public — there can be no disagreement on this.

“We need to prove that following the mass uprising, the professor has achieved success in governance after gaining power with the people’s approval.”
“Dr Muhammad Yunus is held in high regard by the international community, and it is our duty to maintain that respect,” he added.
Taiyeb further stated, “I believe the government should now foster closer ties with political parties, engaging in regular discussions and soliciting their views on various issues. Any form of isolation is unacceptable.”
“Simultaneously, the military must refrain from interfering in politics. In today’s world, no military from a civilized nation participates in political affairs. Thus, the army chief’s comment regarding elections by December did not uphold jurisdictional correctness,” he concluded.
Nevertheless, the specific election date outlined in the roadmap from December to June is entirely under the authority of sir [Yunus]. No one else has the power to usurp that authority. Upon his arrival, sir declared at the airport that his voice must be acknowledged.
In July-August 2025, the nation will commemorate the one-year anniversary of the July Uprising, Taiyeb mentioned. “And by August, we also anticipate the first verdict in the trial of the tyrannical murderer Hasina to be revealed.”
“Insha’Allah, we will prevail. We cannot be vanquished. Long live the revolution. Long live Professor Yunus. Long live Bangladesh,” he concluded his Facebook post.
