B Mirror Report : Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus has extended an invitation to the BNP for discussions at the State Guest House Jamuna on June 2.
Salahuddin Ahmed, a member of the BNP’s Standing Committee, made this statement during a discussion meeting of the Krishak Dal in Dhaka on Saturday afternoon. He remarked: “Those who oppose elections are labeling BNP leaders as traitors and foreign agents. A faction is repaying 17 years of sacrifice.” The BNP leader further claimed that a group is fostering division within the nation through fascist manipulation. Salahuddin Ahmed confirmed that the chief adviser has invited the BNP for talks on June 2.
“There are no formalities lacking for discussions. However, they have no real intentions,” he stated.
He accused the government of dangling promises in the guise of reforms, asserting: “Elections must occur before December; this is the demand of the people. There is no justification for holding elections after December.” Salahuddin called on the government to reveal its reasoning for scheduling elections post-December, even if such reasoning exists. Conversely, BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury expressed that those who entered politics after August 5 are opposed to elections. He alleged that individuals who resist participating in elections have entered politics through an unconventional process rather than through democratic means.
While speaking at a discussion held at the National Press Club on Saturday to commemorate the death anniversary of Ziaur Rahman, he noted that 52 democratic parties are advocating for national elections by December.
He stated: “Those who oppose elections all entered politics after August 5.” Khasru remarked: “These parties are part of a structured and managed political landscape. They do not represent the populace. They fear democracy. If elections occur, they will find themselves without a position. “During the discussion meeting, Amir Khasru also mentioned: “Those who currently reject the idea of an election have chosen the backdoor route to maintain their power, sidelining the people.” He continued: “However, the citizens of this nation will no longer accept that route. This country cannot operate without a just election.
“The election must take place by December,” he added.
