BCCCI calls Chinese investment to boost textile sector

B Mirror Report: The Bangladesh China Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BCCCI) has urged increased Chinese investment and technology transfer in Bangladesh’s textile sector to strengthen the country’s capacity in high-value garment production.

The call was made during a high-level meeting held at the BCCCI office in the capital on Sunday, involving a 20-member delegation from the China National Textile and Apparel Council (CNTAC), the China Dyeing and Printing Association (CDPA), and leading Chinese companies engaged in dyeing, printing and chemical manufacturing, according to a press release.

BCCCI President Mohd. Khorshed Alam led the Bangladeshi side and welcomed the visiting delegation, describing the engagement as an important platform for dialogue and knowledge exchange in key industrial sectors.

He said more than 40 textile and dyeing industrial units in Bangladesh are currently facing financial and technical challenges, adding that upgrading existing facilities through foreign collaboration would be more practical and cost-effective than establishing new factories.

He also encouraged Chinese investors to explore joint ventures, partnerships and technology transfer initiatives aimed at improving productivity and enhancing global competitiveness.

The head of the Chinese delegation, Li Lingshen, expressed appreciation for the hospitality extended by BCCCI and said China exports around US$9 billion worth of fabrics annually to Bangladesh, reflecting strong and growing bilateral trade ties.

He noted that both state-owned and private Chinese firms are increasingly interested in investment opportunities in Bangladesh and the wider Southeast Asian region, identifying the country as a promising destination due to its strong manufacturing base and skilled workforce.

He also expressed optimism that BCCCI would continue to play a key role in facilitating industrial cooperation between the two countries.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation in the garments, textile, dyeing and printing sectors, with emphasis on joint ventures, development of Export Processing Zones (EPZs), addressing energy challenges, strengthening supply chain integration, and promoting technology transfer.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to deepening economic engagement and supporting sustainable industrial development through enhanced bilateral cooperation.
