The Bangladeshi government is extending a helping hand to returning expatriate workers with the rollout of the RAISE scheme. This initiative aims to ease the reintegration process for the over 13 million Bangladeshis who contribute significantly to the national economy through remittances sent from abroad.
The Wage Earners Welfare Board organized a seminar on Wednesday to highlight the program’s features. Project Director Sourendra Nath Saha addressed the event, emphasizing the challenges faced by repatriates and the government’s commitment to supporting their successful reintegration.
RAISE offers a multi-pronged approach. Financial assistance is provided through a cash incentive of 13,500 taka per worker, with a target of reaching 200,000 individuals. Beyond immediate financial support, the scheme offers crucial guidance and resources. This includes assistance with securing self-employment opportunities, loan facilitation, counseling services, and access to entrepreneurship training programs. Additionally, the program emphasizes skill development through certification and technical training initiatives.
By equipping returning expatriates with the necessary tools and support, the RAISE scheme empowers them to leverage their acquired skills and experience. This not only benefits individuals but also strengthens Bangladesh’s overall economic landscape as repatriates contribute their knowledge and expertise upon re-entering the workforce.
