B Mirror Report: Bangladesh’s gross foreign exchange reserves fell slightly to $36.12 billion, according to Bangladesh Bank’s own calculation, while reserves under the International Monetary Fund’s BPM6 methodology rose to $31.31 billion.
Bangladesh Bank spokesperson Arif Hossain Khan confirmed the figures.
According to central bank data, total reserves stood at $36.14 billion on September 29, while reserves under the BPM6 method were $31.29 billion.
This means reserves under the central bank’s own calculation declined by $2 million, while the BPM6 figure increased by $2 million over the period.
Reserves have been gradually declining in recent weeks. On September 20, Bangladesh Bank’s gross reserves stood at $36.30 billion, while the BPM6 figure was $31.45 billion.
On September 16, the corresponding figures were $36.32 billion and $31.46 billion. On September 10, they stood at $36.27 billion and $31.36 billion, respectively.
On September 8, gross reserves stood at $36.43 billion, while reserves under the BPM6 methodology were $31.52 billion.
Earlier, Bangladesh paid $1.39 billion to the Asian Clearing Union (ACU) against import bills for July and August. Following the payment, gross reserves fell to $36.38 billion on September 6, while the BPM6 figure stood at $31.47 billion.
At the beginning of September, Bangladesh’s gross reserves stood at $37.40 billion under the central bank’s own calculation and $32.49 billion under the IMF’s BPM6 methodology.
