B Mirror Report: Central Depository Bangladesh Limited (CDBL) plans to launch a mobile application this month that will allow investors to access their Beneficiary Owners (BO) account information and investment portfolios directly from their smartphones.
The app will also provide transaction details and notifications related to BO accounts, giving investors easier access to information about their investments.
CDBL Managing Director Md Abdul Motaleb disclosed the plan at a seminar on Wednesday marking World Investor Week 2026. CDBL and Central Counterparty Bangladesh Limited (CCBL) jointly organised the event.
Motaleb said the new mobile app is currently in the testing stage and CDBL is working to launch it officially within October.
“Through the app, an investor will be able to view detailed information about their BO account and portfolio,” he said.
Investors will also receive notifications through the app when debit or other transactions take place in their accounts, similar to the alerts currently sent via SMS and email, he added.
Motaleb said CDBL was focusing on upgrading its technology infrastructure to strengthen the security and transparency of investor information.
As part of the initiative, the depository is replacing its existing hardware and technology systems with faster, safer and more robust infrastructure, he said.
CDBL is also working with brokers and depository participants (DPs) to update investors’ mobile numbers, email addresses and other necessary information in BO accounts.
Accurate investor information will help ensure that dividends and other benefits reach the rightful investors and reduce the scope for fraud, Motaleb said.
CDBL currently has around 1.67 million BO accounts, with services provided through about 560 depository participants, he said.
He described protecting investors’ assets and information as one of CDBL’s key responsibilities, noting that each BO account represents an investor who has brought their savings into the capital market.
Motaleb also urged investors to remain cautious about online fraud and market rumours. He advised investors to verify information before making investment decisions, understand the associated risks and diversify their investments.
He also said work was underway to establish a disaster recovery (DR) site in Jashore, which could become operational by the end of this year or early next year.
