BM Desk : Elon Musk’s satellite internet service Starlink, which intends to revolutionize communications and will launch a trial run on April 9, has been approved by Bangladesh.
Officials said Sunday that Starlink, a SpaceX subsidiary, will be commercially available in the next three months.
On March 29, the Dhaka interim administration ordered the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) to require international businesses to register with the regulatory agency before they may conduct business in the South Asian nation.
At a press conference to update the media on the Bangladesh Investment Summit, which kicks off Monday in the capital city of Dhaka, BIDA Executive Chairman Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun stated, “Starlink received approval on March 29 in light of the promise we made to them to operate the service within 90 days.”
Muhammad Yunus, the chairman of Bangladesh’s interim government, had an online conversation with Musk a month ago regarding widespread cooperation.
Later, Yunus gave his administration three months to finish the procedures required to formally start the program.
According to Harun, the service will be tested on April 9 at the location of the investment summit, which will be transmitted live over Starlink’s internet.
Over 2,500 local participants and more than 550 foreign investors from 50 countries will attend the four-day event.
According to the official, Starlink intends to submit an application on Sunday for the Non-Geostationary Orbit (NGSO) license needed to operate.
Approval will be given if the application is filed in compliance with the guidelines. He went on to say that this will satisfy every need of the business-run method.
The launch of Starlink in Bangladesh, according to Yunus’ office, will improve communication by bridging the gap between rural and urban internet service and increasing access to high-speed internet in remote locations.
