Md. Abdul Based Panchagarh Correspondent: After a long fifteen years, the biennial conference of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Tentulia Upazila is going to be held today, Friday. For this, all preparations including determining the venue of the conference and setting up a stage at the Tentulia Upazila Auditorium cum Community Center ground have already been completed. Festoons of various party leaders and activists, flags of colored cloth and multiple torans have been constructed on both sides of the road in Tentulia Upazila Sadar focusing on the conference.
Upazila BNP convener Md. Shahadat Hossain Ranju and member secretary Rezaul Karim Shahin Yaurth said in a statement that the biennial conference of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Tentulia Upazila was last held in 2009. After that, for the past 15 years, when Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of the Fasit Awami League government was in power, every time the BNP decided to hold a biennial conference, it was thwarted by the police/RAB forces supported by her. Thousands of cases were filed against party leaders and activists, and they were arrested and put in jail. Many popular leaders and activists were kidnapped and murdered, and they were kept in fear all over the country. Begum Khaleda Zia, the successful Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson for 3 consecutive terms, was imprisoned in false cases. She was not even given the opportunity to go out of the country for treatment. Because Hasina knew that BNP is a democratic party of the soil and people, built by the advocate of multi-party democracy and the proclaimer of independence, the brave freedom fighter, martyr President Ziaur Rahman.
If the leaders and activists of this party are energized after the conference, her power will not last long. That is why the BNP conference was not held throughout the country at that time. On August 5, 2024, in the face of intense protests against discrimination and public anger at all levels, the autocratic Hasina government fell and fled the country to India to save its life. Later, after the interim government came to power, the leaders and activists were gradually released from jail. Now, under the direction of Tarique Rahman, the acting chairman of BNP and the pride of the youth, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam is organizing BNP conferences in the districts and upazilas as well as organizing party leaders and activists.
In continuation of which, the BNP conference is going to be held in Tentulia upazila. It is learned that Jahirul Kachchu of Panchagarh district BNP will inaugurate the conference. The International Affairs Secretary of the Central Executive Committee of Bangladesh Nationalist Party Barrister Naushad Zamir will be the chief guest and keynote speaker at the event, while the Rural Affairs Secretary of the Central Executive Committee and Member Secretary of Panchagarh District BNP Alhaj Farhad Hossain Azad will be present. The Co-Organizing Secretary of the Central Executive Committee (Rangpur Division) Md. Abdul Khalek, Co-Organizing Secretary Professor Md. Aminul Islam, Member of the Central Executive Committee Adv. Rina Parveen and other district-level leaders will be present as special guests at the event.
