BM Desk : Following a month-long hospital stay in Bangkok, former president Abdul Hamid arrived back in the nation early today.
The executive director of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Group Captain SM Ragib Samad, reported that he landed at the airport in Dhaka at approximately 1:30 am aboard a Thai Airways flight (TG-339). A wheelchair was used to carry him down from the plane. Hamid landed around 1:45 am and proceeded to the immigration station, according to airport authorities.Around 3 a.m., he departed the airport to go home.Abdul Hamid had previously boarded Thai Airways flight TG-340 on May 8th to travel to Bangkok for medical treatment.
Two police officials were removed from their positions, and two others were suspended due to negligence regarding the former president’s exit from the country.The officials who were removed include Hasan Chowdhury, the special superintendent of Kishoreganj police, and Tahsin Arif, the additional superintendent of police in the Special Branch’s immigration division.Those who were suspended are Sub-Inspector Azharul Islam from Kishoreganj Sadar Police Station, who is also the investigating officer in the case against Hamid, and trainee Sub-Inspector Md Soleiman from the Special Branch.
These actions were taken following a warning from Home Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, who stated that those who aided Hamid’s departure would face consequences.
At that time, Hamid’s family confirmed to The Daily Star that the former president was accompanied by his younger son, Barrister Riyad Ahmed Tushar, and his brother-in-law, ANM Naushad Khan, who is the principal of President Abdul Hamid Medical College. A former Awami League lawmaker, he faces accusations in a case filed at Kishoreganj Sadar Police Station, alongside ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, related to an attack on a procession during the July uprising.
Shortly after Hamid’s departure from the country, a controversy arose on social media regarding how an individual accused in a case related to the July uprising was able to leave.
