Chattogram port handles 54,898 TEUs during Eid holiday

B Mirror Report: Chattogram Port maintained steady operations during the seven-day Eid-ul-Fitr holiday, processing a total of 54,898 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) of containers. Of these, 28,961 TEUs were imports and 25,937 TEUs were exports. The busiest day was March 18, when the port handled 11,861 TEUs in a single day.

Between March 17 and March 23, the port processed 2,508,614 tonnes of cargo, including 2,361,786 tonnes of imports and 146,828 tonnes of exports. Despite the holiday, vessel traffic remained smooth, with 64 ships berthing during the week, averaging more than nine vessels per day.

Operations slowed on Eid day, March 21, with cargo handled dropping to 255,874 tonnes and container movement to 962 TEUs, as only three vessels berthed—the lowest for the week.

Officials highlighted the port’s ability to maintain essential services and ensure supply chains continued to function during the holiday. Syed Refayet Hamim, Secretary of the port authority, said operations were mostly normal except on Eid day.

Special measures were taken to guarantee uninterrupted supply, although delivery operations were slower due to transport workers observing the holiday. Activity is expected to pick up as government and private offices reopen.

The Chattogram Port Authority emphasized that key operations continue during major holidays to prevent congestion and ensure timely delivery of essential imports and industrial raw materials.
