The Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) has stated that terminal ownership will not be handed over to foreigners. The information was disclosed in a special press release signed by the Secretary of the Chittagong Port Authority .
According to the release, the Chittagong Port Authority holds sole ownership of all terminals, jetties, yards, and other facilities of the country’s principal seaport. The authority clarified that neither the government nor the port authority has ever had nor currently has any plan to transfer ownership of any terminal to a foreign company.
It further stated that, in compliance with the existing laws of Bangladesh, the process is underway to appoint operators only as licensees, not to transfer ownership.
The matter was confirmed by the port’s Chief Personnel Officer, Md. Nasir Uddin.
The press release expressed concern over the recent trend of some media outlets publishing completely baseless, imaginary, false, and misleading information regarding the management of the port’s terminals. Such reports, it said, are creating confusion among the general public and port users.
It added that when certain media publish fabricated, speculative, or unverified reports from unreliable sources without confirming the actual facts — it leads to public misunderstanding. Particularly, false or speculative news about Chittagong Port negatively affects its normal working environment, which in turn harms the port considered the heart of Bangladesh’s national economy and the country’s overall development.
The CPA called for everyone’s cooperation to maintain a smooth working environment, sustain ongoing development progress, and ensure the continuation of normal economic activities in the country.
Finally, the press release urged the media to be more responsible, truthful, and objective when reporting news related to the Chittagong Port.
