Aftab Feni Correspondent: A human chain was formed in front of the National Press Club on the morning of Saturday, August 2, advocating for the reconstruction of the Muchapur Regulator, a campaign led by the Sonagazi Association in Dhaka.
River erosion commenced following the collapse of the Muchapur Regulator during the catastrophic floods of 2024, which resulted in the destruction of numerous homes across four unions in Sonagazi, Feni, and three unions in Companiganj Upazila, Noakhali.
The speakers at the human chain emphatically urged the relevant government authorities to promptly rebuild the Muchapur Regulator in a sustainable manner to safeguard the residents of Sonagazi.
They warned that if their demands were not met, a larger movement would be organized with the people of Sonagazi.
CIP Mesbah Uddin Kislu Khan, Managing Director of Windy Group and President of the Sonagazi Association, served as the chief guest at the event.
Abdullah, a senior journalist and Managing Director of the Journalists’ Welfare Trust, attended as the special guest.
The Human Chain Implementation Committee President and Vice President of the Association, notable industrialist Nazmul Karim Dulal, presided over the gathering, with Vice President Mahbubul Haque Millat also in attendance.
Other attendees included Md. Ibrahim Bahar, Joint General Secretary Ed. Salahuddin Shimul, Salim Ullah Selim, Sultan Md. Kamal Uddin, Eng. Nur Alam Sohel, Treasurer Nur Alam, Organizing Secretary Md. Abdul Hai PAA, and journalists Amir Hossain Johnny, Shahadat Hossain Jewel, Publicity Secretary Akram Hossain Rinku, and Information Secretary Morshed Alam Prince.
Former Chairman of Charchandia Union Shamsuddin Khokon, Bangla Vision journalist Kefayet Shakil, former President of Sonagazi Press Club and General Secretary of the Bangladesh Mofusal Journalists Union (BMUJ) Feni District Committee Aftab Momin Bhuiyan, among others, expressed their support for this public demand. Members of the association and a significant number of Sonagazi residents residing in Dhaka were also present at the event.
