Md. Nazrul Rajbari Correspondent: A van driver named Shahin Sheikh alias Rupal Sheikh (27) was abducted from his house in Rajapur of Rajbari Sadar Upazila and beaten and tortured to death. After the human chain protesting the incident, the police have arrested Bashir Kabiraj (42), the main accused in the attack on SI Sabbir Hossain, an investigating officer, from a protest procession. He is the son of the late Habi Kabiraj of Lakshipur village of Basantpur union in the district. Earlier, the police arrested two people named Md. Monir Hossain Molla alias Boro Monir and Md. Moslem Molla. He was sent to Rajbari court on Tuesday morning.

A police press release said that last Sunday (May 18), SI Sabbir Hossain and ASI Sheikh Abul Hashem, working at Rajbari Sadar Police Station, were investigating the Rupal murder case of Rajbari Sadar Police Station. The people on the plaintiff side of the case organized a human chain in Rajapur Madhyapara village demanding the arrest of the accused involved in the murder and a fair trial for the murder. During the human chain, some people from among the participants in the human chain suddenly started vandalizing the houses of the accused, and SI Sabbir Hossain and ASI Sheikh Abul Hashem tried to calm the vandals.

At that time, the agitated people attacked SI Sabbir Hossain and ASI Sheikh Abul Hashem who was with him on the paved road in front of Md. Moktar Biswas’s house. SI Sabbir Hossain suffered a severe head injury and was admitted to Rajbari Sadar Hospital from the scene with additional police. Later, SI Sabbir Hossain filed a case with Rajbari Sadar Police Station on Monday (May 19) against 25-30 unknown people, including 12 names, as the plaintiff. The arrest operation is underway. Police patrols have been increased in the area. The law and order situation in the area is normal.

Some people in the area said that the real accused in the murder case have not been caught yet. Two policemen in plain clothes were staying at the accused’s house. When the procession was taken, they came on the road and scolded him, why are we taking the procession here? Then the agitated crowd attacked the police. Meanwhile, the villagers are suffering from the fear of being arrested in the case of attack on the police. We are demanding a thorough investigation and trial.

Rajbari Additional Superintendent of Police Sharif Al Rajib said that the injured SI Sabbir Hossain has filed a case. The main accused in this case, Bashir Kabiraj, was arrested on Monday night. He was handed over to the court on Tuesday. Additional police have been deployed in the area.
