Beximco’s 40 percent workforce non-existent: Trade Advisor

Trade adviser Sheikh Bashiruddin said that in the initial investigation, about 40 percent of the information given to Beximco’s 40,000 workers was found to be non-existent.

He said that Beximco is said to have 40 thousand workers. But in the initial investigation we found about 40 percent of its people were non-existent. A lot of information is created for the purpose of creating excitement.

Along with that, he also raised a question about 4000 crore takas released through IFIC Bank in a housing project of Beximco. The trade advisor said, where did the 4000 million taka raised just three months ago go? It is a matter of wonder – where is the money?

He said these things in a press conference at the Secretariat on Thursday (January 23). The press conference was organized by the advisory council committee regarding the review of the labor and business situation of the industries of Beximco Industrial Park.

In response to a question from journalists about Beximco employees seeking bank loans at the press conference, the business advisor said, “If a company has current assets of Tk 7,500 crore, paying its salary of Tk 600 crore is a matter of seconds.”

He said that the claim that was being made that bank facility is not being given, LC is not being opened – the organization which has current assets of 7500 crore takas does not even need to open LC, and bank facilities are not required.

He also said, “I first learned that they had liabilities of Tk 23,000 crore. Later, I learned that they had liabilities of about Tk 50,000 crore. Assuming a liability of Tk 23,000 crore, we tried to get the company started somehow. The government was very responsible for starting it. Because it is a national asset and a large number of workers are employed here.”

“There is a relevant issue of the country’s export earnings. So the government has made efforts in this regard with great generosity and sensitivity. But the government did not receive any cooperation from them (Beximco). Then the government was forced to appoint an administrator here.” The administrator was not given any help. It was said that the lawyer is prohibited from sharing any information,’ said the business advisor.

Beximco’s 12,000 crore taka loan in the name of 16 non-existent companies

Sheikh Bashiruddin said that the decision-making of the high-level council that worked due to the immense cooperation had become a very complicated matter. After that, the government paid 600 crore taka every month from its place of responsibility, which is unprecedented in the history of Bangladesh. This matter was very complicated.

He said that a Beximco housing project in Mayanagar raised 4,000 crore taka in my bond through IFIC Bank. Just three months ago. Where did that 4,000 crore taka go? It is a surprising matter – where is the money?

In response to another question from journalists, he said, in order to create employment for these workers, we have discussed with all the stakeholders in the industry and asked them – so that they (Beximco workers) can be assimilated into various organizations. Various organizations have shown considerable interest in this matter. But they wanted to legally separate themselves, they were no longer the workforce of that organization, they wanted to take it on the basis of such a legal framework. The advisory council and a huge government team were working tirelessly together to provide that framework. In the meantime, such disastrous incidents have occurred. The country’s labor society is being dishonored through various types of assets and the destructive activities that are being carried out in violation of criminal laws. The garment industry is being dishonored above all, the country.

Beximco, which is listed in the capital market, has retained earnings of more than Tk 7,500 crore, and whether to conduct a forensic audit of the matter. The house was stolen and the house is not there. Cannot find the house.
