The new president of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), all businessmen should work together to bring their country out of the current economic predicament
“Keeping national election ahead, businessmen of the country should work together to overcome ongoing troubles of the economy,” said Mahbubul Alam on Monday.
He and the newly elected office bearers of the country’s apex trade body were taking over charge at a ceremony held on Monday at the auditorium of FBCCI building at Motijheel in the capital.
He and his team would try best to serve interest of business community, the government and the consumers as well, said Mahbub, “The main goal of our new board is to work for the welfare of the businessmen. Our main task is to ensure policy and other supports for businessmen in all economic sectors in the country.”
He added that FBCCI would soon launch and trading portal with updated prices of commodities as to prevent manipulations in commodity prices.
Mahbub is hailed from chamber of the port city Chittagong and profile of his company M Alam Group shows his businesses include importing and trading, banking and insurance, tourism, food, energy, health care, logistic and supply and infrastructure development.
The new president of the FBCCI said that operations of the FBCCI would be decentralized by businessmen by opening offices in different areas in the city including Gulshan and in old town
He also informed that regional summits business will be organized across the country by FBCCI and a mega summit will also be organized again in 2024 to attract international investments.
Jasim Uddin, the outgoing president said, 82 percent of the economy of Bangladesh depends on the private sector so as the guardian, FBCCI is very important organization.
“The size of Bangladesh’s economy was worth just US$ 90 billion even three decades back but now it is sized at US$ 450 billion,” said Jasim. “By 2041, the size will exceed a trillion dollars as private sector and FBCCI are working as the big booster of economy.”
Earlier, on 2nd of August, newly elected 80-member FBCCI board, comprised with representatives from chambers and associations, elected office bearers with Mahbub as president and seven vice presidents.
