Finance advisor Salehuddin Ahmed claims that the price of goods has not increased much due to VAT increase. He said, in what context VAT has been increased, it will be informed after a few days.
He told reporters after the meeting of the Advisory Council Committee on Government Procurement at the Secretariat on Tuesday (January 21).
The Finance Advisor said that tax and VAT issues are decided during the budget. Many things will be adjusted then. Along with the increase in VAT, duty exemptions have been given in some cases.
The finance advisor said that the government will not sell OMS (open market sale of goods by government enterprises) for the time being. This time, this activity was taken under special circumstances. Now this activity has been suspended as the price of goods has come down in the market a little. If such an emergency situation arises in the future, it will be resumed.
OMS products are generally bought by people from lower and middle class families. In response to the question of whether these people will suffer if it is stopped in this situation, Salehuddin Ahmed said, “These products are given at such a subsidized price that many able-bodied people also buy these products.”
