BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman said, “Together we will build a Bangladesh as envisioned by a mother meaning, we want to build a safe Bangladesh, a country where a person can leave home safely and return home safely.”
He made these remarks on Thursday (25 December) afternoon at a public reception stage on the 300 Feet Road in the capital.
At the event, Tarique Rahman said that he first expresses gratitude to Almighty Allah. “By the grace of the Almighty, I have returned to the motherland,” he said.
He added that just as the people of the country achieved independence in 1971, in 2024 people from all walks of life came together to protect the country’s independence and sovereignty. “Today, the people of Bangladesh want to regain their right to speak. They want to reclaim their democratic rights,” he said.
Tarique Rahman said that the time has come for everyone to work together to build the country. “This country is home to people from the hills and the plains—Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists and Christians. We want to build a safe Bangladesh, where every person whether a woman, a man or a child can leave home and return safely,” he said.
Emphasizing that the young generation will build the country in the future, he stressed the need to develop the nation on a democratic and strong economic foundation. He repeated three times, “We want peace for the country.”
On the day, Tarique Rahman arrived at the public reception stage on the 300 Feet Road at 3:50 PM. At the reception, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir conveyed greetings to Tarique Rahman on behalf of party leaders and activists.
Earlier that day, at 12:35 PM, he set off from the airport for the 300 Feet Road by road in a special bus. Party leaders and activists welcomed him by waving from both sides of the road. After 3 hours and 15 minutes, BNP leader Tarique Rahman reached the stage.
Previously, the aircraft carrying BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman landed at Sylhet Osmani International Airport at 10:00 AM on Thursday (25 December). Shortly before that, in an emotional message posted on his verified Facebook page, he wrote: “In the skies of Bangladesh after 6,314 days!”
Earlier still, the flight departed London’s Heathrow Airport for Dhaka at 12:15 AM (Bangladesh time) on Wednesday night (24 December).
