Vibrant Baishakhi sports festival marks Bengali new year in Khagrachari

Khokan Bikash Tripura Jack, Khagrachari Correspondent: A lively Baishakhi sports festival was held in Khagrachari, celebrating both the Bengali New Year and the traditional Boishabi festival of the pahari communities. The event turned into a joyful gathering filled with youthful enthusiasm, sporting spirit, and a message of social harmony.

The festival took place on Wednesday afternoon at the Khagrachari Sadar Upazila Field, organized by Projonmo Club. As the afternoon progressed, people of all ages gathered at the venue—some to participate, others to cheer. With the active involvement of children, teenagers, and young adults, the event transformed into a vibrant community celebration.

Khagrachari District Council member Md. Mahbub Alam attended the event as the chief guest. Local dignitaries and members of Projonmo Club were also present.

The sports competitions featured a mix of traditional rural games and modern activities, creating excitement among participants. Events included running races, tug-of-war, pillow games, Ludo competitions, and various fun activities. The entire field echoed with laughter, applause, and excitement.

In his speech, Chief Guest Md. Mahbub Alam said,

“Say ‘no’ to drugs and ‘yes’ to the field. There is no alternative to sports in building a healthy and beautiful society. When the youth remain engaged in sports, drugs and violence stay away from society. Let us encourage our young generation to take part in sports and build a better future.”

He further added that such initiatives are not only entertaining but also play a crucial role in bringing positive change to society. Sports are essential for the physical and mental development of young people, and this initiative significantly contributes to that goal.

Organizers said the main objective of the event was to promote joy, unity, and a healthy competitive spirit among the younger generation during Boishabi and the Bengali New Year. They expressed hope to continue such initiatives in the future.

At the end of the day-long festival, prizes were distributed among the winners. Participants were seen with smiles of satisfaction, while spectators carried a sense of hope for a brighter future.

Locals believe that such sports events during the festive Boishabi season help strengthen social and cultural bonds in Khagrachari. This initiative could serve as an inspiring example of guiding youth toward a positive path through sports.
