Brahmanbaria Correspondent:
The bodies of two children were recovered from a pond near a graveyard in Nasirnagar upazila of Brahmanbaria, nearly seven hours after they went missing, in an incident that has shocked the local community.
The tragic incident occurred on Thursday (April 16), with the bodies discovered around 9:30 pm. A wave of grief has swept through the area, while the circumstances surrounding the deaths have raised serious questions.
The deceased were identified as Chandni Akter, 9, and Nurjahan Begum, 8. Both were residents of Ratnapur Monkota village under Ward No. 2 of Chatolpar Union. They were neighbors and close friends.
According to local sources, the two children had been missing since around 2:00 pm. Family members and local residents conducted an extensive search. Later in the evening, their bodies were found floating in a pond beside the Ratnapur graveyard. The bodies were recovered with the help of locals.
Officer-in-Charge of Nasirnagar Police Station, Mohammad Shahinul Islam, confirmed the incident, saying that police are aware of the matter. However, no written complaint has been filed so far. He added that further steps will be taken after an investigation.
Locals expressed concern, claiming that both children knew how to swim and that the pond is relatively shallow, with water reaching only knee level. This has led to growing suspicion about how the incident occurred.
Grieving families and local residents have demanded a prompt and thorough investigation to determine the exact cause of death.
