After examining Chittagong Port’s adherence to the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code, a United States Coast Guard (USCG) team provided a very satisfactory evaluation.
Chittagong Port is successfully executing the ISPS Code in accordance with international norms, as evidenced by the USCG delegation’s lack of observations during the inspection.
Omar Faruk, the secretary of the Chittagong Port Authority (CPA), stated that the port is still completely compliant with the ISPS Code. He mentioned that as part of the worldwide assessment of port security systems, the USCG team carried out recurring inspections. This year, on January 21 and 22, the delegation went to Chittagong Port to evaluate security measures.
He explained that the ISPS Code is a global security framework developed by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to ensure the safety and security of ports and ships. Proper implementation of the code helps create a secure environment and facilitates smooth international trade operations.
According to CPA officials, the USCG report particularly praised the security measures currently in place at the port, reinforcing Chittagong Port’s standing as a secure and internationally compliant maritime facility.
