B Mirror Report: The UK Trade Envoy to Bangladesh, Rt Hon Baroness Winterton of Doncaster DBE, is visiting Dhaka this week to reinforce and expand the UK-Bangladesh trade and economic partnership.
This is her third visit to Bangladesh, coinciding with the newly elected government’s formation in February, and underscores the UK’s commitment to deepening collaboration in trade, economic development, higher education, aviation, and defence.
During her visit, Baroness Winterton will meet senior ministers, government and military officials, and business leaders, including UK company representatives, to explore avenues for boosting bilateral trade, investment, and commercial ties. She will also visit Bangladeshi exporters benefiting from the Developing Countries Trading Scheme (DCTS), which provides duty-free market access, simplifies export rules, encourages diversification beyond garments, and supports sustainable economic development.
Bangladesh remains the largest beneficiary under the DCTS, supplying high-quality products to the UK while creating employment at home. Baroness Winterton emphasized the historic partnership between the two countries and expressed optimism about identifying new opportunities for mutual growth. British High Commissioner Sarah Cooke highlighted the visit’s significance in strengthening economic cooperation as Bangladesh embarks on a new chapter.
The UK continues to be one of Bangladesh’s largest export markets and a key development and investment partner, reaffirming its support for Bangladesh’s transition toward a more diversified and resilient economy.
