Two officials of Trump come to Dhaka on Wednesday

B Mirror Desk : Trump’s two deputy assistant secretaries of state are arriving in Dhaka on a three-day visit on Wednesday. This information was revealed by the Foreign Ministry on Monday (April 14).

Sources said that during this visit of the first delegation of US President Donald Trump’s administration, various issues including reforms and democratic transition in Bangladesh, Trump’s counter-tariffs, assistance in the Rohingya crisis and the situation in Myanmar, as well as Dhaka-Washington relations, will be discussed.

According to the Foreign Ministry and Bangladeshi officials posted in Washington, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Nicole Chulik will arrive in Dhaka first on Wednesday. Later, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Andrew Herap will arrive on another flight. Andrew Herap is expected to be accompanied by US Ambassador to Myanmar Susan Stevenson.

According to diplomatic sources, on the first day of the visit, the two deputy assistant secretaries of state will talk to US embassy officials about the situation in Bangladesh. Then they will exchange views with leaders of various political parties including BNP-Jamaat-e-Islami and representatives of civil society. Then on Thursday (April 17), they will talk to senior government representatives including two US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Advisor Md. Touhid Hossain and National Security Advisor Khalilur Rahman.

In this regard, Foreign Affairs Advisor Md. Touhid Hossain said that this is going to be the first visit of a high-level delegation of the country to Bangladesh after Donald Trump was sworn in as the US President. As a result, various issues of the relations between the two countries will be discussed. The issue of Trump’s counter-tariffs may come up for discussion.
