Two billion dollars in remittances arrived in 23 days

After the political change, the flow of remittances or expatriate income also takes a breath. In just 23 days of this February, Bangladeshi expatriates working in different countries have sent more than 2 billion dollars in remittances. There has never been a record of such a large amount of remittances coming in in such a short period of time.

If this trend continues, the remittance flow may set a new record in February. Because, the highest monthly remittance in the country’s history was 2.64 billion dollars in December last year. It may be surpassed in February.

According to the relevant department of the Central Bank, remittances of 2.7 billion dollars or 2076 million dollars have come to the country in the 23 days of February this month. In local currency (based on 122 taka per dollar), which amounts to more than 25 thousand 327 crore taka. If remittances continue to come in this way, this sector of the country’s economy is going to set a new record.

Meanwhile, the country’s foreign exchange reserves are increasing based on remittances or expatriate income. Currently, the reserves have increased to about 21 billion (20.85 billion) dollars.

The latest data from the central bank says that according to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) accounting method BPM-6, the country’s reserves are now 20.85 billion dollars or 2,850 million dollars. And according to the Bangladesh Bank’s calculations, the country’s gross reserves have increased to 26.11 billion or 2,611 million dollars.
