Turkey’s Sanko eyes $300 million investment in Mirsarai

Turkish textile giant Sanko is planning to invest approximately $300 million in Bangladesh’s industrial sector by establishing an integrated textile manufacturing complex at the Mirsarai Economic Zone in Chattogram.

The investment proposal was presented during a meeting on Tuesday between a Sanko delegation and Commerce, Industries, and Textiles & Jute Adviser Khandaker Abdul Muqtadir at the Secretariat. State Minister for Textiles and Jute Md. Shariful Alam also attended the meeting.

Sanko representatives said the company has decided to invest in local production due to Bangladesh’s strong export capacity, skilled workforce, and growing demand from international buyers. While the company currently supplies textile products from Turkey to global markets, it aims to make Bangladesh a key manufacturing hub for its future operations.

The proposed facility will include fabric production, fabric processing, and the manufacturing of high-value-added textile products. The company believes the project will strengthen Bangladesh’s textile and ready-made garment industries by enhancing production capacity and export competitiveness.

During the meeting, Sanko requested government support in ensuring timely access to gas, electricity, infrastructure, and the necessary regulatory approvals. The company also emphasized the importance of environmentally friendly technologies and sustainable energy solutions to meet the evolving requirements of international markets.

According to the delegation, site selection and preliminary discussions with local partners have already been completed. Subject to regulatory approvals, project implementation is expected to begin within the next few months, with commercial production targeted 12 to 18 months after construction starts.

Adviser Khandaker Abdul Muqtadir said the government remains committed to providing policy and administrative support to attract foreign investment, adding that such projects will play an important role in accelerating industrialization and expanding Bangladesh’s exports.
