City Bank’s H1 profit jumps 75% on higher investment

City Bank PLC has reported a 75% year-on-year increase in consolidated earnings per share (EPS) and net profit for the first half (January–June) of the current financial year, driven by higher investment income and growth in commission and fee-based earnings.

The unaudited financial results were disclosed through the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) on Tuesday.

According to the financial statement, the bank’s consolidated EPS rose to Tk 3.01 for the January–June period, compared with Tk 1.72 in the corresponding period last year, marking an increase of Tk 1.29, or 75%.

Net profit climbed to Tk 527 crore from Tk 301 crore a year earlier, an increase of approximately Tk 227 crore, also representing 75% growth.

For the second quarter (April–June), City Bank posted a consolidated EPS of Tk 1.63, up from Tk 1.19 in the same quarter of the previous year, reflecting a 37% year-on-year increase.

The bank attributed the improved performance to higher investment income as well as increased commission and fee-based income during the second quarter, which positively impacted earnings per share.

As of June 30, City Bank’s consolidated net asset value per share (NAVPS) stood at Tk 37.60.
