B Mirror Report: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against two former officials of Uttara Finance and Investments Limited, including its former Managing Director, on charges of embezzling approximately Tk 48.3 million through fake and unauthorized vouchers.
The case was filed by ACC official Md Ahsan Uddin at the Commission’s Dhaka Integrated District Office. The matter came to light on Sunday (February 8).
The accused are former Managing Director of Uttara Finance and Investments Limited, S M Shamsul Arefin, and former official Mithu Kumar Saha.
According to the case statement, the accused, in collusion with each other, abused their positions and misappropriated company funds by withdrawing cash without prior approval from the management authority. It is alleged that a total of Tk 48,312,125 was embezzled from the company’s accounts using fake and unauthorized vouchers.
The ACC investigation found that, in most instances, the accused withdrew funds in cash instead of conducting transactions through scheduled banks, which constitutes a clear violation of Bangladesh Bank’s FID circular.
The case has been filed under Sections 409, 420, and 109 of the Penal Code, 1860, as well as Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947.
