The top corporations’ market capitalization has dropped by 42 thousand crore taka.

The market capitalization of the top 10 companies in terms of market capitalization of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), the country’s main capital market, decreased by Tk 42,221 crore in the first half (January-June). This information is known in a report of BRAC EPL Stock Brokerage Limited about the capital market situation.

According to the data, the market capitalization of seven companies among the top 10 companies decreased, two increased and one company’s market capitalization remained unchanged in the first half of this year.

The market capitalization of Grameenphone, which is the top in terms of market capitalization, has decreased by Tk 5,253 crore in the first half. At the end of June 30, the market capitalization of the company stood at 33 thousand 447 crores. At the end of last year, the market capitalization of the company was 38 thousand 700 crores.

The market capitalization of Walton Hi-Tech Park Industries, which is in the second position during the discussion period, has decreased by Tk 12 thousand 66 crores. At the end of last June, the market capitalization of the company stood at 19 thousand 672 crores. At the end of last year which was 31 thousand 738 crores.

American Tobacco Bangladesh Company (BATBC) decreased to Tk 17 thousand 431 crore in the first half. At the end of last year which was 28 thousand 10 crores. During the period under discussion, the market capitalization of Robi Aziata has decreased to Tk 12 thousand 204 crores. At the end of last year, the market capitalization of the company was 15 thousand 714 crores.

The market capitalization of power sector company United Power Generation and Distribution Company (UPGDCL) fell to Tk 8,301 crore in the first half. Where the market capitalization at the end of last year was 13 thousand 548 crores. LafargeHolcim’s market capitalization also fell in the first half. The market capitalization of the company decreased by Tk 813 crore to Tk 7 thousand 235 crore.

Square Pharmaceuticals and Berger Paints gained market capitalization in the first half. At the end of last month, the market capitalization of Square Pharmaceuticals stood at Tk 18,695 crore, while the market capitalization at the end of last year was Tk 18,642 crore. Accordingly, the market capitalization of the company has increased by 53 crore taka. In the first half, the market capitalization of Berger Paints increased to Tk 8,555 crore, which was Tk 8,227 crore at the end of last year. Besides, the market capitalization of Bangladesh Export Import Company was unchanged in the first half.

The company has a market capitalization of Tk 10 thousand 384 crores.

Meanwhile, in the first half of this year, the market capitalization of multinational companies has decreased by about 20 thousand crores. On the other hand, the market capitalization of the top 10 companies on the basis of free float shares decreased by Tk 22 thousand 702 crore during the same period.
