The decision to speed up internet access was made by ICT State Minister Polok

State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology Junaid Ahmed Palak said that various social media apps, including Facebook and TikTok, which were closed due to the anti-quota movement, will be launched by the afternoon.

He said these things to reporters at the BTRC building in Agargaon in the capital on Wednesday (July 31) morning.

At this time, Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) chairman and various high-ranking officials were also present.

Palak said, there are no restrictions. The closed Facebook-TikTok and other social media sites will be launched today (Wednesday) afternoon. At the same time, work has started to ensure the maximum speed of the internet.

Earlier, Palak held a meeting (online platform) with the Asia headquarters of Mater (Facebook, WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram) in Singapore. In the meeting, various contemporary issues were discussed including setting up offices in Bangladesh and taking initiatives to strengthen fact-checking to resolve any instability due to misinformation, and disinformation.

Earlier, on July 28, the government issued a letter to Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok regarding some video content during the recent quota reform movement. The letter sought a rational explanation from them.
