China proposes Bangladesh-Myanmar economic corridor

Foreign Desk : China has proposed establishing an economic corridor linking Bangladesh, Myanmar, and China to enhance regional connectivity, trade, and economic cooperation.

The proposal was discussed during a bilateral meeting between Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Friday.

Speaking at a media briefing after the meeting, Prime Minister’s Office Spokesperson Mahadi Amin said the proposed Bangladesh-Myanmar-China Economic Corridor aims to expand Bangladesh’s economic reach, increase cross-border transactions, and promote multimodal transportation across the region.

He said the initiative is intended to strengthen regional economic integration and improve connectivity through enhanced transport and trade networks.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman paid tribute at the Monument to the People’s Heroes in Tiananmen Square. His schedule also included a meeting with Zhao Leji and a visit to the National Museum of China before departing Beijing for Dhaka later on Friday.
