B Mirror Report: The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has extended the deadline for submitting income tax returns for the 2025–2026 tax year until May 17 for all taxpayers except individual taxpayers and Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs).
In a notification issued on Thursday, the NBR said the previously announced deadline of May 15 falls on a weekly holiday. As per the Income Tax Act, 2023, the deadline has therefore been extended by one day to May 17.
The revenue authority also made it clear that no further extension will be granted for filing income tax returns for the current tax year.
According to the NBR, taxpayers other than individual taxpayers and HUFs who fail to submit returns within the revised deadline will still be allowed to file returns with their respective tax circles until June 30, 2026, under the self-assessment system.
However, such taxpayers will have to pay the applicable taxes in accordance with Section 174 of the Income Tax Act, 2023.
