Taskforce will have to work with bankers if they want reforms: BAB Chairman

Chairman of Bangladesh Association of Banks (BAB) Abdul Hai Sarkar said that if the banking sector is to be reformed, the task force should work with bankers. Bangladesh Association of Banks will work together with Bangladesh Bank to develop the financial sector.

BAB chairman commented that there should be no relationship with bank robbers.

Meanwhile, there has been a change in the leadership of BAB after 17 years through the formation of ad hoc committee. Nazrul Islam Majumder, the recently ex-chairman of Exim Bank, was in charge of the chairman of BAB for 17 consecutive years from 2008.

The government of the country was changed on August 5 in the face of the students’ movement. Bangladesh Bank removed Nazrul Islam Majumdar from the post of director and chairman of Exim Bank after this political change. As a result, he lost the chairmanship of BAB.

Besides, two vice-chairmen of BAB led by Nazrul Islam Majumdar also lost their positions as directors of the bank after the change of government. As a result, these two also lost the eligibility to be in the leadership of BAB.
