B.Mirror Desk: Sonali Bank PLC, the largest state-owned commercial bank, has stepped forward to assist Md. Alamin Hossain—a meritorious student from Kumarkhali, Kushtia—who faced uncertainty regarding the continuation of his studies at Dhaka University due to his family’s financial hardship. Alamin Hossain is the eldest son of Alef Ali, a van driver from Rajapur village in Panti Union, Kumarkhali Upazila, Kushtia. He is a first-year student at the Institute of Social Welfare and Research at Dhaka University. After securing admission to the university, he faced extreme uncertainty about continuing his education due to financial constraints. The matter came to the attention of the Sonali Bank authorities after reports were published in the media. Subsequently, the bank contacted Alamin’s family and took the initiative to provide support to ensure his education could proceed without interruption.
On Tuesday, September 29, a decision was made during the bank’s Board of Directors meeting to provide financial assistance to cover Md. Alamin Hossain’s educational expenses. Following this, Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman, Chairman of the Board of Directors, handed over a cheque for a one-time financial grant of Tk 50,000—sourced from the bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) fund—to Alamin Hossain. Additionally, it was announced that Sonali Bank would provide a monthly educational stipend of Tk 5,000 until the completion of his studies. The bank’s Managing Director Md. Shawkat Ali Khan, members of the Board of Directors, and the company secretary were present on the occasion.
