Salt distributed to Patuakhali orphanage to preserve leather

Jahirul Patuakhali: The Patuakhali district administration and Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) have distributed free salt to various madrasas and orphanages in the district to properly preserve the skins of sacrificial animals on the occasion of the holy Eid-ul-Azha.
The Deputy Commissioner of Patuakhali officially inaugurated the salt distribution program at the Deputy Commissioner’s office premises on Tuesday (June 4) at 12 noon.
With the overall support of the Ministry of Commerce, a total of 47 metric tons of salt was distributed to madrasas and Lilla boarding schools in various upazilas of the district through Patuakhali BSCIC this year. This step has been taken to prevent the skin from spoiling quickly after the sacrifice and to properly preserve this national treasure.
The Deputy Commissioner said, “Leather is an important resource. It is our responsibility to stand by the madrasas and orphanages so that it is not wasted. We want every leather in the country to be properly preserved and its proper value to be obtained.”
Teachers and related parties of these institutions are happy to receive free salt. Several madrasa heads said that due to the shortage of salt during the Qurbani, various problems arise in preserving the skin. This time, this government initiative will be of great help to them.
The manager of BSCIC Patuakhali said that there is no alternative to using salt to maintain the quality of leather. They are maintaining regular communication at the field level to ensure that salt is applied correctly and is not misused anywhere.
It is to be noted that a huge amount of resources are wasted every year due to improper management of the skins of sacrificial animals. Those concerned hope that such initiatives will play an effective role in preventing this waste.
