Reserves will not fall further: Governor

The governor of the central bank thinks that the country’s foreign exchange reserves will not decrease. Ahsan H. Mansoor. He said this at a press conference at Bangladesh Bank on Wednesday (August 28).

The governor said, “The reserve will not decrease, but there is a possibility of increasing.” We are no longer selling dollars. Our aim is to maintain the normal process of import-export by keeping the reserve.

Our agenda is forward-looking. There was a lack of good governance. We are thinking how to rescue it. In addition, Ahsan H. Mansoor urged that no one wants to buy the assets of S. Alam Group, which has been widely discussed in the banks of the country, for the sake of the country.

He said, ‘We will use it (assets of S Alam Group) legally for the country. There is no precedent that someone can take over a bank in this way using state machinery.

The governor said that Islami Bank is owned by the government and the people. The boards that are given should work properly and no one will be exempted if there is any irregularity. The board will be changed if necessary.

The Governor said that if there is no political reform, it will not be possible to establish good governance in the banking sector.

Regarding what the central bank will do to reduce inflation, he said, “There is a flood disaster going on in the country now.” We are trying in different ways. Trying to maintain the exchange rate. If this is the case, import-export will be normal. We are trying to strengthen the monitoring system by communicating with the business community.
