In the first 21 days of this December, the country received remittances equivalent to 200.73 million US dollars through legal channels. At the exchange rate of 120 taka per dollar in the local currency, the amount is 24,000 crore taka. This information has been revealed from the latest updated report published by the central bank.
According to the information, in the first 21 days of December, 613.1 million dollars were received through state-owned banks, 77.3 million dollars through a specialized bank,131.16 million dollars through private banks,and 51.6 million dollars through foreign banks. Industry stakeholders say that if this trend of remittances continues, the country’s expatriate income is expected to be close to a record three billion dollars in December.
In the first month of the 2024-25 fiscal year, 191.37 million dollars were received in July, 222.41 million dollars were received in August, 240.47 million dollars were received in September, 240.47 million dollars were received in October, and 2.2 billion dollars were received in November. Expatriates sent remittances worth US$23.92billion to the country in the fiscal year 2023-24.
The amount of local currency was Tk 282 billion. The remittance figure is the second highest ever. The record remittance in the country’s history came in the fiscal year 2020-21, at $24.77 billion.
