Record Mobile Banking Transaction Sets December Milestone

Over 17 lakh 37 thousand crore taka were transacted through mobile banking last year. This represents a 28.42% increase over 2023. In December, the largest transaction was 1 lakh 64 thousand 740 crore taka. which, in a single month, is the highest in mobile banking history. This information surfaced in Bangladesh Bank’s most recent report.

Paying gas, water, and electricity bills, sending money overseas, and disbursing salaries and allowances are all done via mobile phones while at home. Mobile banking has gained popularity as a way to conduct transactions from city to hamlet because of its convenience.

According to the updated report of Bangladesh Bank, transactions of 17 lakh 37 thousand crore taka were made through the 13 Mobile Financial Services (MFS) companies currently providing services in 2024, which is 3 lakh 84 thousand crore taka more than in 2023. Transactions in MFS have increased continuously since July in the outgoing year. However, a record 1 lakh 64 thousand 740 crore taka was transacted in December.

In July last year, the amount of transactions in mobile banking was 1 lakh 22 thousand crore taka, 1 lakh 37 thousand crore taka in August, 1 lakh 45 thousand crore taka in September, 1 lakh 54 thousand crore taka in October, 1 lakh 56 thousand crore taka in November, and 1 lakh 64 thousand crore taka in December.

In addition to transactions, there were more MFS accounts during the previous year. The total value of MFS accounts was 23 crore 86 lakh at the end of December 2024. It was 22 crore 4 lakh in 2023. In other words, in just one year, there were 1 crore 82 lakh more account holders.
