Professor Mohammad Sharif Uddin, a distinguished figure in the realm of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of Green University of Bangladesh. The appointment, made by the President and Chancellor of the Universities, is set for the next four years, as per an official order signed by Md. Farhad Hossain, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Education, in accordance with section 31 (1) of the Private University Act, 2010.
Professor Mohammad Sharif Uddin brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his new role. Graduating from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in 1991 with a degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, he pursued further studies abroad, obtaining a Master’s in Technology Education from Shiga University, Japan, in 1999, followed by a PhD from Kyoto Institute in 2002. In 2013, he also acquired an MBA from Jahangirnagar University.
His illustrious career in academia began in 1991 as a lecturer at the Bangladesh Institute of Technology (now Chuet) in Chittagong, before joining the CSE department of Jahangirnagar University in 1992. Throughout his tenure, Professor Sharif held various key positions, including Chairman of the Computer Science Department and In-charge of the ICT Cell.
Professor Sharif Uddin’s contributions extend beyond teaching, with involvement in numerous research projects both nationally and internationally. He boasts over two hundred research articles published in esteemed journals such as Elsevier, Springer, and IEEE, along with participation in various national and international conferences. Notably, his invention of ‘Electronic Eye’ for the blind garnered global recognition from prestigious media outlets including CNN, BBC, and Reuters.
With a focus on Computer Vision, Image Security, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning, Professor Sharif Uddin has accumulated extensive research experience in renowned universities worldwide, including institutions in Singapore, Japan, and Germany. Additionally, he has served as the president of the Bangladesh Computer Society (BCS), further solidifying his stature in the field.
The appointment of Professor Mohammad Sharif Uddin to the position of Vice-Chancellor at Green University underscores the institution’s commitment to academic excellence and innovation, poised to further elevate its standing in the realm of higher education in Bangladesh.
