Prime Minister Tarique Rahman left Dhaka for New York on Monday morning to attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

He departed Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 6:05am on a Turkish Airlines flight, accompanied by his wife Dr Zubaida Rahman and other members of his delegation.

According to the Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Ruman, Tarique Rahman is scheduled to address the UN General Assembly on September 24.

During his visit, the prime minister is scheduled to attend several high-level meetings and events, including discussions on climate action, global inequality, maternal and newborn health, and the Rohingya crisis.

He is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with the Crown Prince of Kuwait and the prime ministers of Croatia, Bhutan, Thailand, Pakistan and Haiti. Discussions are expected to cover political and economic relations, trade and investment, development cooperation and the Rohingya crisis.

The prime minister is also scheduled to meet the UN secretary-general, the president of the European Council, the president of the World Bank Group and senior UN officials.

As part of the government’s economic diplomacy efforts, Tarique Rahman is expected to meet senior representatives of Meta, Wall Street and several business organisations.

He is scheduled to leave New York for Dhaka on September 25. This will be Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s first participation in the UN General Assembly.
