Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is expected to inaugurate Bangladesh’s first-ever solar energy exhibition, Bangladesh Solar Expo 2026, on November 3 in the capital, aiming to accelerate investment and promote the use of renewable energy.
The two-day event will take place on November 3-4 at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre (BCFCC) in Agargaon, with the opening ceremony scheduled for 10:30am.
Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood announced the details at a press conference at Bidyut Bhaban on Sunday. He said the prime minister would inaugurate the exhibition and visit different stalls.
Organised jointly by the Power Division, the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, and Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL), the expo will feature modern solar technologies and opportunities for investment in renewable energy.
The exhibition will be held under the theme “Use Every Inch of Rooftop, Increase Income from Solar Power”, encouraging households and businesses to utilise unused rooftops and land for solar power generation.
Four seminars will be organised during the event to discuss solar energy development, increasing renewable energy’s contribution to the national energy mix and expanding rooftop solar installations across the country.
State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Aninda Islam Amit said the government was working to address electricity shortages by 2030 and reduce public suffering during the summer.
The expo is also intended to support the National Renewable Energy Development Strategy 2026-2030 and inform stakeholders about government policies, incentives and investment opportunities in the solar energy sector.
Key topics will include green technologies, tax and duty benefits, climate financing, carbon credits, solar-powered irrigation, and training and skills development.
Policymakers, government agencies, development partners, financial institutions, investors, technology providers, entrepreneurs and consumers are expected to participate.
The exhibition will provide a platform for building partnerships among investors, financial institutions and entrepreneurs to expand solar energy projects and strengthen Bangladesh’s renewable energy sector.
