Officials arrive at press conference demanding launch of Beximco LC

Bangladesh Export Import Company Limited (Beximco) has called a press conference citing the reason of raw material shortage. The press conference will be held tomorrow Thursday (January 23) at 11:30 am at the office of Capital Market Journalists Forum (CMJF) at Al Raji Complex in the capital.

Since the fall of the Awami League government in the August 5 student uprising, there has been unrest in the Beximco group of companies. A few factories in Beximco Industrial Park have been shut down amid worker unrest.

Salman F Rahman, Vice-Chairman of Beximco Group, was the private industry and investment advisor to deposed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Since he was arrested and jailed, the group’s founders have been operating the company from a sort of shadow.

Beximco Limited’s human resources development and administration department official Tariqul Islam told the media that there is no raw material. I can not open LC in any bank. We will demand the government to open bank account of the company and start LC facility. It will be possible to open factories only if the banking facilities are activated. We want the government to give us the opportunity to do LC.Beximco Ltd. has announced lay-off till 30th of January. They are demanding to open the factory before this LC.
