No unfit vehicle to be allowed on roads: Home Adviser

No unfit vehicles will be permitted to operate on the roads, even after being refurbished, during the upcoming Eid travel period, stated Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam Choudhury on Tuesday.

“At times, vehicle owners attempt to disguise unfit vehicles by applying a new coat of paint before sending them out on the roads. However, let me clarify — no such vehicle will be permitted to operate under any circumstances,” he remarked while addressing reporters outside his office at the Secretariat, as reported by UNB.

He urged transport owners to ensure that drivers receive adequate rest prior to long trips. “We frequently observe situations where a driver travels to Rajshahi and is then instructed to return immediately. We have instructed transport owners to arrange proper rest for drivers.”

The government has suspended all leave for law enforcement personnel nationwide to guarantee the safety of individuals and property, the adviser noted.

“A sufficient number of law enforcement officials have been stationed in Dhaka and throughout the country to avert any form of disturbance. Members of the law enforcement agencies are on high alert,” Jahangir added.
