Mymensingh Correspondent: In Phulpur upazila of Mymensingh, an NGO named Credit Development Foundation (CDF) has allegedly disappeared after embezzling crores of taka from its clients, causing widespread concern in the area. On Sunday (October 12), a victim named Josna Begum (35) from Sahapur village in the municipality filed a complaint at Phulpur Police Station regarding the incident.
According to sources, a few months ago, officials of the Credit Development Foundation rented the second floor of a flat near Sahapur Bazar in Phulpur municipality to run their operations. They began forming groups through local field officers and started enrolling members from various areas. Promising loans of Tk 1 lakh per member, they collected Tk 10,500 from each member as processing fees or deposits.
Several victims have reported that the NGO officials collected over Tk 1 crore from clients across the 10 unions and the municipality of Phulpur Upazila before vanishing without a trace.
Harun-or-Rashid, a victim from Amuakanda village, said, “They promised me a loan of Tk 4 lakh but took Tk 40,000 from me,” allegedly collected by a field officer named Aziz.
Another victim, Sohel Mia from Payari Union, stated, “Field officer Farida took Tk 30,000 from me, promising a loan of Tk 3 lakh.”
Shafiqul Islam from Char Kaziakanda village shared, “They told me I would get a loan of Tk 50,000 and took Tk 5,250 from me.”
Regarding the matter, Phulpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Abdul Hadi said, “Based on the complaint, police immediately visited the scene. Legal action will be taken following further investigation.”
