NBR Makes Bold Move to Revise Revenue Collection Target

The government started the current fiscal year (2024–25) with a revenue collection goal of Tk 480,000 crore. This month, however, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) updated the revenue target in the middle of the fiscal year. The NBR must collect Tk 463,500 crore in the current fiscal year in accordance with the updated target. The NBR sources disclosed this information.

The government set a revenue collection target of Tk 541,000 crore in the 2024 budget. Out of this, the revenue collection target of Tk 480,000 crore was set solely through the National Board of Revenue.

According to the revised target, the NBR will have to collect Tk 120,510 crore in customs duty, Tk 171,495 crore in VAT and Tk 171,495 crore in income tax in the current fiscal year.

The notification signed by Arun Kumar Biswas, Director General of the Research and Statistics Division of the NBR, said that with the approval of the NBR Chairman, the revised revenue target of taxes regulated by the National Board of Revenue for the next fiscal year 2024-25 has been set at Tk 4,63,500 crore.
