Capital Market Reform Focus Group’ has been formed

A 10-member ‘Capital Market Reforms Focus Group’ has been formed with the aim of ensuring overall development of the stock market, increasing investors’ confidence and good governance of international standards.

Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) recently formed this focus group based on the advice of the ‘Capital Market Reform Task Force’.

According to the order of BSEC, it has been decided to form a ‘Capital Market Reform Focus Group’ with the aim of improving the stock market and increasing investor confidence.

The members of the focus group are Shahidul Islam, CEO of VIPB Asset Management, CFA, MD and CEO of Prime Bank Securities Ltd. Moniruzzaman, CFA, EDGE AMC Founder and CEO Ali Imam, MD Midway Securities Ltd. Ashiqur Rahman, AK Khan Securities Limited CEO Muhammad Moniruzzaman Mia, Cal Bangladesh MD & Country Head Andrew Deshan Pushparajah, Central Counterparty Bangladesh Limited (CCBL) GM & CTO (Acting) M Imam Hussain, Ahmed Sheikh Roy & Co. Partner Sheikh Tarek Zahir , Managing Partner of Ahmed Haque Siddiqui & Co Md. Wadud Ahmed and ICAB member Deepak Kumar Roy.

The BSEC order mentioned that it has been decided to fix 8 thousand taka as honorarium for the members of the focus group based on their attendance at the meeting.

On October 7 last year, the ‘Capital Market Reforms Task Force’ was formed by an order signed by BSEC Chairman Khandkar Rashed Maqsood, whose members will form focus groups based on various issues.

The purpose of the activities of this focus group is to develop the stock market, ensure good governance and propose necessary changes in government policies.

The main responsibilities of the task force are to improve the governance of the stock market, strengthen internal governance and ensure transparency and accountability of internationally listed companies.

The focus group members have already started their work and are working on various issues, which will help in the development of the stock market later on.
