For the 2025–2026 tax year, the government has once again extended the deadline for individual taxpayers to file their income tax returns. The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has issued an order extending the deadline for submitting returns from December 31, 2025, to January 31, 2026. It states that with prior government approval, the decision was made in the public interest using the authority granted by Section 334 of the Income Tax Act, 2023.
Earlier, the NBR had extended the original deadline once from November 30 to December 31, citing various difficulties faced by taxpayers.
The latest extension aims to provide additional time to facilitate wider compliance and ease pressure on taxpayers.
To prevent any inconvenience, the NBR has advised qualified taxpayers to take advantage of the extended period and file their taxes by the amended deadline.
