BM Desk : The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has collected revenue amounting to Tk 9,08,250 crore (90 thousand 825 crore taka) in the first three months (July-September) of the 2025-2026 fiscal year. This is the highest revenue collection ever recorded in the first three months of any fiscal year so far.
In a press release on Friday (October 17), NBR stated that during the July-September quarter of the 2025-2026 fiscal year, new records were set in revenue collection from income tax and travel tax, local-level VAT sector, and import and export sectors.
In the first three months of the previous fiscal year 2024-2025, the total revenue collection was Tk 7,55,547.8 crore. In the same period of 2023-2024, it was Tk 7,60,684.3 crore, and in 2022-2023, it was Tk 6,86,350 crore. Compared to the first quarter of the previous fiscal year, revenue collection increased by Tk 1,52,700 crore this year. The growth rate in revenue collection compared to the first three months of the previous fiscal year is 20.21%.
Regarding VAT collection during the current fiscal year’s review period, the release mentions that the local-level VAT sector collected the highest revenue of Tk 3,48,190 crore in the first three months of 2025-2026. In the first quarters of 2024-2025, 2023-2024, and 2022-2023 fiscal years, collections in this sector were Tk 2,68,384.9 crore, Tk 2,84,454.1 crore, and Tk 2,45,466.5 crore respectively. Compared to the July-September quarter of the previous fiscal year, the local-level VAT collection grew by 29.74% this year.
It is further stated that during the first three months of 2025-2026, revenue collection from income tax and travel tax was Tk 2,84,780 crore, which is significantly higher than Tk 2,40,808.2 crore in the first quarter of 2024-2025, Tk 2,37,513.1 crore in 2023-2024, and Tk 2,10,162.0 crore in 2022-2023. The growth rate in income tax and travel tax collection compared to the same period last fiscal year is 18.26%.
Moreover, in the import and export sector, revenue collection during the July-September 2025 quarter of the 2025-2026 fiscal year was Tk 2,75,280 crore, which is significantly higher than the collections in the same period over the last three fiscal years. In the July-September quarter of the previous fiscal year (2024-2025), collection in this sector was Tk 2,46,254.7 crore. This year, revenue collection in this sector increased by Tk 28,925.3 crore. The growth in revenue collection in the import and export sector during the first three months of 2025-2026 compared to the previous fiscal year is 11.74%.
NBR stated that its talented and hardworking staff remain committed to further accelerating this growth in revenue collection through expanding tax coverage, ensuring tax compliance, preventing tax evasion, and recovering evaded revenue to contribute to the government treasury.
