Bangladesh’s economy is gradually recovering and is currently in a far better situation than it was during the difficult time of last August, according to Professor Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, economic adviser. He made it clear that the economy is recovering and has not crashed.
He said these things at the International Mother Language Institute auditorium on Sunday, November 16, during the “Nagad–DRU Best Reporting Award 2025” ceremony.
A number of government programs designed to boost economic activity have begun to show benefits, Dr. Ahmed noted. He declared, “The economy is in a recovery phase, and notable gains are seen across critical industries.”
The economic adviser noted clear positive signs in both the foreign exchange reserve and export sectors. Although he acknowledged that certain domestic challenges persist, he stated that the global perception of Bangladesh remains optimistic.
He also mentioned that major international institutions are aware of Bangladesh’s achievements and have already recognized its progress.
Looking ahead, Dr. Ahmed called for reducing unnecessary expenditures and ensuring accountability in development projects. He pointed out that some mega projects of the past have become merely symbolic structures despite massive costs and emphasized the importance of learning from these experiences.
“The coming months are crucial. Our main responsibility now is to refine and coordinate the existing framework and hand it over to the elected government so they can advance it more effectively,” he added.
Dr. Ahmed stressed that national development should not be confined to economic growth alone. Sectors such as education, healthcare, and social security are essential for building a happier and more prosperous Bangladesh, he said.
He also highlighted the vital role of responsible journalism. He urged journalists to pursue investigative reporting to uncover the truth and provide constructive criticism to identify flaws that require attention.
Special guest Kaiser A. Chowdhury, Chairman of the BPO-Nagad Management Board, also spoke at the event. Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) President Abu Saleh Akon and General Secretary Mainul Hasan Sohel delivered remarks as well.
