National Bank depositors to withdraw funds as needed from Oct 15

B Mirror Report: Depositors of National Bank will be able to withdraw their deposits according to their needs from October 15, with Bangladesh Bank instructing the bank to ensure adequate cash availability at all branches and ATM booths.

The directive was issued at a meeting between Bangladesh Bank Governor Md Mostaqur Rahman and National Bank Chairman Prof Dr Melita Mehjabin and Managing Director Zafar Ahmed on Thursday.

The meeting, held at 10am, was also attended by Bangladesh Bank Deputy Governors Dr Md Habibur Rahman, Dr Md Kabir Ahmed, Md Sarwar Hossain and Md Anisur Rahman.

During the meeting, National Bank’s chairman said recent measures taken by Bangladesh Bank had helped strengthen governance at the bank. Positive changes have also been made in senior management to improve the bank’s efficiency and operational capacity, she said.

The governor said Bangladesh Bank was monitoring National Bank’s recent liquidity position and the issue of depositors withdrawing funds according to their needs.

He instructed the bank to take necessary measures to protect depositors’ interests, maintain public confidence in the banking system and ensure orderly operations.

The bank authorities were specifically directed to ensure that depositors can withdraw their money as required.
