On Monday afternoon, the Mango Special Train was inaugurated, transporting 1,845 kilograms of mangoes for the fifth consecutive year. Md Abdul Wadud, MP, launched the service by blowing the whistle.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Chapainawabganj Sadar Mst Tasmina Khatun, Additional General Manager of West Railway Ahmed Hossain Masum, Chief Engineer Md Asadul Hoque, Manager of Rajshahi Divisional Railway Shah Sufi Nur Mohammad, and Chapainawabganj Railway Station Master Md Obaidullah.
According to railway sources, the train will depart daily from Rohonpur railway station at 4 PM, making stops at 15 stations including Chapainawabganj, Rajshahi, Abdulpur, Ishwardi, Poradah, Rajbari, Faridpur, and Bhanga, before arriving in Dhaka at 2:15 AM. Notably, this year, the train will travel through the newly constructed Padma Bridge.
The transportation cost per kilogram of mango has been set at Taka 1.47 from Chapainawabganj, Taka 1.43 from Rajshahi, Taka 1.19 from Poradah, Taka 1.07 from Rajbari, Taka 1.01 from Faridpur, and Taka 0.98 from Bhanga stations.
Additionally, the train will carry sacrificial animals at a reduced cost from June 12 to June 14. The cost for transporting animals has been fixed at Taka 14,730 per wagon.
